- To wander the winding streets of the Old Village, the old capital of the island with its stone-built two-storey houses and colourful, flower-filled balconies. Climb up to the medieval castle overlooking the Aegean Sea and enjoy the most beautiful sunset.
- Discover the history and traditions of the island at the wonderful Historical and Folklore Museum in Patitiri. Its collection offers an imaginative journey into the life of the pirates who operated on the island between the 16th and 18th centuries, through finds from pirate ships. In the museum’s exhibits you will also see everyday objects that reveal traditional island life.
- Take a stroll to the seaside village of Steni Vala, a favourite destination for boaters and sailors who, based in the picturesque harbour (reminiscent of a fjord), enjoy sea explorations on the surrounding islets and nearby beaches. Visit the diving centre and the Care Centre of the Society for the Study and Protection of the Mediterranean Seal (Mom). Enjoy a walk through the dense pine forests and olive groves that surround it.
- Enjoy cool cocktails on lovely terraces overlooking the endless blue.
- Tour the Marine Park for the Protection of the Mediterranean Seal, a habitat of unique natural beauty with rare flora and fauna of seals, dolphins, corals. The aquatic ecosystem consists of Alonnisos, the desert islands of Peristera, Kyra Panagia, Psathoura, Piperi, Skantzoura, Yura and 22 rocky islets.
- Walk along the pine-lined path leading from Chora to the Byzantine chapels of Agioi Anargyroi (13th century), built on the edge of a cliff with a stunning view of the sea.
- Taste Alonissos tuna, one of the most exquisite and expensive delicacies of the Greek seas.
- Tour the ruins of the Neolithic settlement of Ikos and the ancient cemetery at Kokkinokastro.
- Follow the traces of ancient Alonissos to the neighbouring uninhabited island of Kyra Panagia or Pelagonisi. Make a stop at the 12th century historic monastery of the same name, the restored flour mill and the restored olive mill, before diving into its exotic beaches (Agios Petros and Planitis).
- Visit the impressive Blue Sea Cave with dazzling colours in all shades of turquoise and stalactites on its roof, near the islands of Peristera and Panagia. You will arrive here by boat from Alonissos.

Leftos Gialos: Its unique exotic beauty of white sand and white pebbles, green pine trees and clear turquoise waters create a postcard-like setting. The beach overlooks two deserted islands, the Two Brothers. It is organized with taverns and beach bars that operate from morning to night. One of the main stops for tourist boats from Skiathos and Skopelos.
St Demetrios: An exotic paradise of white pebbles and blue waters that often features on lists of “the ten best beaches on the planet”. Opposite is the islet of Peristera. Due to the long length of the coast, only a part of the beach is organised while the rest is ideal for seclusion and tranquillity. A tavern and a canteen offer the necessary supplies to the patrons.
Chrisi Milia: One of the most popular beaches, with a cosmopolitan atmosphere, on the eastern side of the island. The golden fine sand and crystal clear shallow waters make it ideal for families with children and snorkeling. It is organized with umbrellas and tavernas with excellent food and you can visit it if you choose a ticket to Alonissos.
Vithisma: A hidden paradise in the south of Alonissos with a beach of fine dark sand and black pebbles, crystal clear emerald waters and a dense pine forest that reaches the sea. Ideal for lovers of quietness and windsurfing. Access is by boat or through a secret path that starts from the dirt road leading to Megalo Mourtias.
Kokkinokastro: One of the most impressive beaches on the island, it is spread out at the foot of a steep reddish cliff and surrounded by large imposing rocks in bright red colours. The wild beauty of the landscape is complemented by dense green pine trees, pink sand and colourful rocks while the deep turquoise waters hide a wonderful seabed for exploring with a mask. The beach is ideal for lovers of tranquillity and solitude. It is organised with umbrellas and sunbeds but no beach bar or canteen. Access requires descending steps.
- Experience a unique underwater adventure, exploring the legendary shipwrecks that adorn the underwater world of Alonissos, from the 4th – 5th century to the Byzantine years.The sea of Alonissos… a sea of experiences! In the largest natural marine park in the Mediterranean, the flora and fauna are impressive, creating the feeling that the natural environment remains untouched and unchanged over the centuries. The preference of the Mediterranean Monachus – Monachus seal as well as other rare species of the unique ecosystem of the Northern Sporades prove the truth of the matter.The unparalleled natural beauty unites with the underwater myths and legends. The marine area is full of shipwrecks of great historical value.
- Stop at the volcanic island of Psathoura to admire the tallest lighthouse in the Aegean, the work of 19th century French engineers, and the wreck of an ancient city at the bottom of the island.
- Take part in an exploratory trip by canoe kayak on the seas of the island.
- Get local sweets and tuna from Alonissos in a jar from the Women’s Cooperative and the local grocery stores in Patitiri.
- Walk one of the island’s signposted paths, enjoying the magical changes of scenery between the green of the forest and the turquoise of the sea.
- Attend the Festival of the re-enactment of threshing (July) in the Old Village, where the traditional way of threshing with the use of horses is revived. The women of the village prepare traditional wheat trahanas to distribute to the people and the festival culminates with dancing and singing.
- Try black linguini with tuna or grilled tuna. The “Alonissos tuna” (type “Alalunga”) is one of the island’s fine products. There are three types (yellow, white, red) and it is sold in glass jars.
- Taste the famous trahanopita (handmade pastry with trahanas, onions, myzithra cheese, eggs).
- Enjoy the local pumpkin pie with its characteristic sweet and spicy taste.
- Try the crispy twisted cheese pie (snail-shaped) and walnut pie.
- Try burrets (meat pies with boiled goat meat).
- Sweeten yourself with hamalia (traditional sweets made of almond, walnut, semolina, honey and spices with powdered sugar), fouskakia (a type of doughnut shaped like small balls), sultana (the local bougatsa) and the local almond desserts.
- Drink the local “black” wine of the island, with its characteristic dark red colour.
- Make a stop at Kalamakia beach to taste fresh fish of the day and fine lobsters with pasta (lobster manestra).
- Choosing a ticket to Alonissos you should try grilled figs with honey.
